During the General Member Assembly, which was held at the International Congress On Extremophiles 2010, Azores, Professor Helena Santos was elected as the new ISE President. She took over presidency from Professor Garabed Antranikian. Professor Harayuki Atomi is the new vice president of the society. The ISE office stays in Hamburg, Germany.

Handbook.jpgThe Extremophiles Handbook was published at Springer. The Extremophiles Handbook brings together the rapidly growing and often scattered information on microbial life in the whole range of extreme environments. It presents a comprehensive overview on extremophiles research and covers microbial life in the whole range of extreme environments.

FACCIOTTI, Institute for Systems Biology, Seattle, Wa, USA; Takashi ENDOH, Department of Synthetic Chemistry and Biological Chemistry, Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University, Japan; Kirsten BECK, Department of Biochemistry II, University of Bayreuth, Germany. Kirsten BECK also received the ISE travel grant which allows her to visit a research laboratory of her choice within the ISE network.

July 2006

Professor Koki Horikoshi, honorary president of the ISE, was awarded the prestigeous Japan Academy Prize. Professor Horikoshi received the prize in an award ceremony in the presence of His Majesty the Emperor of Japan. The ISE cordially congratulates Professor Horikoshi for receiving this important prize.

June 2005

The ISE honors Prof. Karl O. Stetter with a life time honorary membership for his outstanding contrubution to expremophiles research. The award was announced on the occasion of the meeting 'Archaea - The First Generation' at Hohenkammer Castle, Munich, Germany.
